A heart attack isn't the only event aspirin may help you survive. In a recent study with over 25,000 people, British researchers found that taking a daily aspirin may cut the risk of risk of gastrointestinal cancers, such as colon and bowel, by 54 percent. Just like with heart disease, the drug may prevent inflammation--also the cause of cancerous tumors. Just 75 milligrams a day, or a "baby aspirin," was also found to reduce the risk of prostate and lung cancer. Who should not take aspirin? Those with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or other bleeding disorders, those with aspirin sensitivity or allergy, or those taking other blood thinning medications. If you are wondering whether aspirin may be a good choice for you, call my office or send me an email so we may discuss your options.
